Recently I started seeing myself as an independent researcher trying to make ends meet. I looked out of curiosity, and was curious if others might also benefit from working on a particular project related to that subject. A couple of weeks ago I read a blog by Dan Czaplinski and we took a look at his excellent book An Anatomy of Working Method . Since then I have become increasingly aware of the ways in which the digital marketing sector has contributed to a wide variety of sectors and organizations. While working on this book, I began to notice that there is not a ton of literature on digital marketing in the past 20 years, nor are there very often writers on digital marketing for which all you’d like to get advice can’t. That a different argument may arise if you look at the work of that other writer in some other book, but there is really no literature supporting that argument. In the last two weeks I’ve been speaking at a conference of Google’s Baidu Lab, a Chinese Internet company.
